When you consider going on holiday either as a couple or with the children, whether teenagers or toddlers, you need to decide the type of family holiday/adventure you are looking for and break it down into the four main areas;

Destination / Accommodation,
Travel, Food & Entertainment for you and anyone who is accompanying you.

Firstly, the destination is discussed, which generally then includes all the other 3 areas. As a couple the thought of jumping on a plane for 4 or more hours is no big deal, however with kids it becomes a totally different option. This is why many families are deciding to take their family holidays within a drivable distance. This may be in the UK or Europe via the extremely efficient Le Shuttle. So you now have to decide where and what type of accommodation you want to stay in, obviously this can depend on the budget. Although, even if your budget is high, it doesn't automatically mean you need to go for expensive hotels. There are many other options, Cottages, Barn Conversions, Modern apartments or even the much maligned static caravan. The benefit of a caravan is that you can decide on the size and quality, from the basic small option to the double width palatial luxury lodge style statics.

Once you have decided on the type of accommodation you want, you need to make sure that it is near the type of entertainment that will suit the whole of your party. This may be a local pub with a raging fire and home cooked food or just a rock to sit on whilst you stare at the sunset and drink a bottle of wine. The entertainment will normally depend on the age of your group, if you are travelling with younger or older children, variety is normally what is required. If you did decide on a caravan as your accommodation of choice, then you need to decide on the location that it will be situated. You can find single privately owned static caravans on a farm or family estate, or campsites with a few vans, small family run caravan parks increasing in size up to the full on holiday parks from Haven, Park Resorts or Butlins. Usually, the larger parks have more variety of entertainment, however same smaller resorts have more than enough to keep anyone entertained. Either way private caravan hire is by far the best value way of booking a holiday caravan.

Most of the accommodation is near the main attractions of the area, which means that there are generally, not only the restaurants and fast food places on the holiday parks, but more than likely a multitude of international eateries from around the globe, very nearby. So you could possible find the same type of food that you would have been eating, if you had jumped on a plane to Italy or Spain!

The only thing that is not guaranteed is cloudless blue skies and blistering temperatures. Although, if you wait until the next home Olympics, you may be lucky!
